John Langridge

John was born in Surrey and has been associated with music from an early age. After private piano study, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music at age twelve and then went to Lancaster University where he took a degree in music.


After graduation, John worked in Surrey at Guildford School of Acting, the Thorndike in Leatherhead and various other theatres, producing over a hundred musical productions. In 1987 John was appointed Live Music Producer for BBC Radio 2 and was involved with BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Radio Orchestra and BBC Big Band. He was responsible for many programmes that became well known.


He left the BBC in 1998 and moved to Hastings where he is Director of Music for Battle Abbey School, so responsible for nurturing musical talent at a young age. In 2001 John was delighted to be appointed Director of Music for Battle Choral Society. He was responsible for leading the choir in many of the great and momentous Choral works, including Bach B Minor Mass, Verdi requiem and Beethoven 9th (Choral) and many other composers such as Dvorak, Mozart, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and his favourite, Bruckner.
